As part of our Summer Youth College program, From Zero to One Hundred is a student-based, comprehensive, and interactive course in Film, spanning from basic pre-production to post-production activities, with the inclusion of multiple, enjoyable art applications, and a sprinkle of film theory.

  • Students will learn how to analyze elements of film, and how to recognize these elements when watching the coming-of-age film screened in class.
  • Students will learn how to design costumes for these characters by translating their personality traits into colors, shapes, and textures that mirror them. Like color, shapes, textures, and direction also have cultural connotations while affecting us subjectively.
  • Students will design a set that will show a specific environment for the emotions their characters are experiencing, as well as the overall mood and themes of their main concept. In this collaboration, students will learn the language of colors, Color Coding, where every color has a cultural, or somewhat objective connotation, and a subjective interpretation by the emotions we associate with any color. They will be able to visually translate words, sentences, and entire messages into colors that will accordingly affect their viewers’ experience.
  • While the art of acting is one of the most helpful disciplines to experience as a foundation to any chosen profession, students will have the option to act themselves or to invite someone else to act in their short film.
  • Students will learn basic editing strategies and color grading as they further interpret and finetune the message or purpose of their short film.

A guest speaker that specializes in film production and a ballroom dancer/baritone/actor will entertain students while they experience a gamut of artistic expressions.
