Abolition Is Everything Workshop: Connecticut

Description

Join us most Sunday mornings in 2022 for a one-hour workshop with Sarah Shotland centered on abolition research and letter writing.  This week will focus on Connecticut, including the Connecticut Prison Book Connection and a prompt about disconnecting/connection.

The workshop is based on Sarah's handmade Abolition Is Everything boxes, which contain a 50-card deck, and 50 pre-addressed and stamped envelopes. You provide the postage. Each envelope is addressed to a person currently in prison who has asked for correspondence from the outside world. These people represent all 50 states. Corresponding with people on the outside is one of the most frequent requests from prisoners. On Sunday, we'll meet up to work on that week's card together.

Primarily, Abolition is Everything invites you to write all 50 people represented in this box. You can write letters based on the writing prompts you find on the back of each card, or you can simply write what’s on your mind. Many of the cards also invite you to participate in some kind of activity: making a meal, taking a walk, searching for something specific in your daily life, or reading a specific piece of writing. You can also simply use this deck to complete these activities. Each activity was crafted to cultivate a spirit of abolition & abundance.
