Ingredients:

(Volume measures are provided as an estimate, but recipes use weight measurements only – you DO need a kitchen scale!)

  • 500 grams All Purpose Flour (4-5 cups)
  • 10 grams Salt (about 2 teaspoons)
  • 19 grams Sugar (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 6 grams Instant Yeast (1 packet, or 2 teaspoons)
  • 1 Egg (for egg wash)
  • Any desired bagel toppings (everything bagel blend, sesame seeds, dried garlic or onion, cheese, etc!)
  • 1 pint (16 oz) Heavy Whipping Cream
  • Ice Water (if you have large cocktail ice cube molds this is a great time to use them!)

Equipment:

  • Kitchen Scale
  • Stand mixer with dough hook and whisk attachment OR hand mixer (if you only have a hand mixer, this means you will be kneading dough by hand and will need a very deep mixing bowl for churning the butter)
  • Paper Towels or Clean Flour Sack Kitchen Towels
  • Sheet Pan
  • Parchment paper or silicone mat
  • Wire Spider (or Slotted Spoon)
  • Pastry brush or silicone brush
  • Home oven
  • Spatula
  • Mixing bowl shield to contain the splashing from the homemade butter (you can also create one using aluminum foil, plastic wrap, or drape a clean towel over the top of your mixer).

This is an interactive, participatory virtual baking class. Attendees are requested to respect the event as a body positive, anti-diet culture space. There will be no discussion of calories, nutrition, weight, weight loss, or health in this class.

Testimonials:

"I had never made bagels before and not only was I pleased with my results from the class, but Rebecca added enough additional information that I’m confident I can do it again and try some of the more complex recipes on her site! Bagel baking Sundays may be a new tradition in my house."

"I had a really fun time! Bagels have always seemed difficult to make and I’ve been intimidated but you showed us that it’s actually really easy! I can’t wait to try your other bagel recipes!"

"The class was fantastic! There was enough time built in so nothing felt rushed. My favorite part was being able to show Rebecca what my dough looked like and get feedback. She was funny and warm, great communication and her set up was perfect!"
