About the curator: Jekeva does a lot of things, mostly because she doesn’t want to get old and regret stuff. She is a writer, producer, actor and voice artist, events host, flies through the air on aerial fabrics, performs improv.... you get the picture. Jekeva loves to create and produce events that showcase Seattle’s immense talent. She is the current Managing Director of Lit Crawl Seattle, Creator of Bibliophilia Storytelling Festival, and many more. She was the Editor-in-Chief of Word Lit Zine, a literary rag for Seattle’s readers and writers, from its birth in 2014 until its end in 2021. Her poetry chapbook Les Amants: Lovers and Other Strangers was published in 2016.

Jekeva graduated Point Park University with BA in Cinema & Digital arts and a creative writing minor. She lives in her hometown of Seattle with her two severed yeti heads, Ziggy and Mason. And, yes, she will do the voices if you ask.

About the programs:

Vonnegut

Description: What better author is there for a festival all about poetry, prose, and improvisational theatre than Kurt Vonnegut (Cat’s Cradle, Slaughterhouse-Five and Breakfast of Champions)? In this event, the Bibliophilia Players will create a fun, improvised play (improvised meaning on-the-spot, that’s right without a script!) in the style of Kurt Vonnegut based on audience suggestions. Like Vonnegut—known for his satirical literary style, deconstruction of time, humor, and science-fiction elements— the Players will tell a story by jumping around in time while exploring the lovely (and awful) things humans do. (Presented in partnership with Unexpected Productions, creators of Unexpected Vonnegut.)

Bestsellers

Description: Everyone loves the “what comes next?” feeling of reading a good book. Bestsellers takes that feeling to the next level where both audience and cast discover what comes next, improvised onstage and in the moment! Our “book club” cast members start out on stage discussing a fictitious book. Then audience suggestions launch us into improvised scenes and fun discussions stemming from a never-before-written book. The story will definitely LEAP off the pages and come to life before your eyes. (Presented in partnership with Unexpected Productions, creators of Bestsellers.)

Heathcliff Letters

Description: You remember your school days book reports and pop quizzes, don't you wish you had a better way to study all the classics? Well at this show, you will learn everything you ever need to know about great literature without cracking a book.

Shout out the title of a novel you've always wanted to read, and sit back and enjoy as the Bibliophilia Players, our group of improvisational actors, give you the Heathcliff Letters version.
