BIPOC Healing Space

Description

Each month, we sit in community with a guided meditation, talk, and group discussion to create a healing space centered in rest, mindfulness, and liberation.

Each session includes:

  • Guided meditation (centering and breathing exercise)
  • Talk led by our facilitator
  • Open Q&A and discussion

This space is for anyone who identifies as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and Person of Color) and is looking for a sacred space to come home and connect with self. Come sit, breathe, and rest with us.

We also offer spaces for our Asian American and Queer Asian communities.

To honor our safe space, if you are an ally and passionate about helping our community, please email info@mindfulsights.org.

Every 4th Tuesday evening of the month* (unless holiday week)

8 – 9:30p EST, 7 – 8:30p CST, 5 – 6:30p PST

Each month, we will have a different facilitator to help lead our session, bringing their own unique blend of ancestral, spiritual, and personal practices to share with our community.

Moderator

Steven Wakabayashi (he/him) is a second-generation Japanese-Taiwanese-American, based in New York City, and the founder of Mindful Sights, a nonprofit organization dedicated to making mindfulness more accessible to minority communities. After recovering from a life-threatening illness, he left his corporate job to study meditation at Buddhist monasteries around the world - including Tushita in northern India with the Dalai Llama, Plum Village in southern France with Thich Nhat Hanh, Japan, Thailand, UK, and across the US. His teachings are inspired by both traditional Eastern and modern Western practices. He grounds his practice in community and can often be found collaborating with other LGBTQ+ and BIPOC spaces and leaders in making this teaching and practice more equitable and accessible to communities.

We’re continually seeking to improve our Mindful Sights offerings. If you have any questions or would like to connect with us in other ways, please email us at info@mindfulsights.org.
