COST OF THE TRIP : $2500 until May 31st , price increases monthly from June 1st onward

MINIMUM DEPOSIT TO REGISTER: $300

Travel to Kenya is not included in the cost of the retreat. Payment plans available, to be arranged after initial deposit. Please note that all deposits are non-refundable after 24 hours of purchase. Registered Participants will be required to attend at least 3 of 5 monthly community exploration calls preceding the trip. Registrants must be 21 years or older to participate.

Maasai Mara Wildlife Safari: We are ending 2022 on Safari! The Maasai Mara is one of the most famous and important wildlife conservation and wilderness areas in Africa, world-renowned for its exceptional populations of lion, African leopard, cheetah and African bush elephant

Kenyan Connection: We are partnering with various local artists, communities & organizations before and during the trip including initiatives that support women & children in dynamic ways

Yoga + Meditation The BAR Kenya Team includes two certified yoga & meditation teachers skilled in guided meditation, breathwork, yoga & meditation. The team will facilitate various moments of grounding & alignment based movement throughout the trip.

Custom Experiences: Experience Kenya with an intimate group from a creative perspective! One of a kind art & culture experiences tailored just for our group

Traditional Arts + Culture Exploration: Through cities, forests, plains and beaches, we will engage the histories, cultures and creative traditions of various Kenyan peoples through workshops in traditional arts like dance, cooking and weaving.

KELLY GREENLIGHT, Mistress of Vision

Artist, Educator, Cultural Organizer and Wellness Warrior based in NYC. For over a decade, Kelly has been creating and facilitating experiences around emotional health, women’s narratives, and nature. She is the foundress of Black Arts Retreat. Since 2011, Kelly has facilitated creative wellness programs throughout the US, Brazil, Germany, Kenya and Haiti.

TWIRY, Mistress of Logistics

Projects & Event Manager based in Nairobi, Kenya. In addition to being an avid traveler and advocate of the arts, Twiry is a Licensed Attorney specializing in Intellectual Property. She’s passionate about the arts and offers her skill set in planning, logistics and general organization. Her vision is to work in more creative spaces and help artistic projects come to fruition.

SIX, Mistress of Wellness

Yogi & Massage Therapist based in Newark, NJ. Six is a devoted wellness advocate, practitioner, and teacher who has been immersed in the journey of wellness & self-exploration through yoga for nearly a decade. Through Sensate Wellness, she empowers community with the skills needed for self healing through the process. Six collaborates with numerous local black- and woman-owned businesses to facilitate ongoing public yoga classes that incorporate sacred medicines, ancestral guidance, and alignment based movement.

ALEX , Mistress of the Arts

Interdisciplinary artist and farmer based in Chicago, IL. Her agricultural work is an acknowledgement and remembrance of her ancestors who worked the land of Ayiti while growing her relationship to land. She explores Caribbean foodways, family and memory through storytelling and art. Portraiture, farming and apprenticing in traditional artistic practices of the African diaspora are all pathways for her ideas to take form.

Black Arts Retreat was founded in 2013 with the simple, yet the profound mission of uniting lovers and practitioners of the African Diasporic Cultural Arts. Since that time, we have hosted 6 Black Arts Retreats in the Northeast United States and 4 international retreats in Germany, Dominica, Brazil, and Haiti.
