Boundary Condition Anniversary

Description

The Boundary Condition Anniversary features 13+ artists in a hybrid of audiovisual live-sets, augmented reality, a fluid-imitative installation, kinetic light sculpture, ethnomusicologically driven field recordings, Welsh pink noire, an avant-garde choir, Syrian heritage tapes, modernist sound poetry, collage & AI exhibitions, brutalist performance art, and a hauntological potato installation discoursing current political realities.

The immersive projection mappings of the architecture performed in one of the last surviving churches of World War II will dissect and reverse engineering elements of Sergei Parajanov's work. In an attempt to induce the feeling that the space has been excavated or archaeologically unearthed from narratives of his work; almost as a time capsule comprising the historical sediment of his fragmented scenarios.

St Ethelburgas Church’s structure is a rare survival of the medieval City churches that were mostly destroyed during the Great Fire of London in 1666. Its foundation date is unknown, but it was first recorded in 1250 as the church of St Adelburga-the-Virgin. After its repair in 1775, it suffered bomb damage during the Blitz of the Second World War. and was restored. In 1993, the church was again half destroyed when a massive IRA bomb exploded 7 metres from the church. An evangelical faction of the Church of England proposed to demolish St Ethelburga's in the aftermath but, following a sustained public outcry, it was rebuilt to its original plan

Lineup:

* gglec

Sŵn cras atseinol fel taro dau beth caled yn erbyn ei gilydd

gglec was formed in 2021 by avant-bard Rhys Trimble and London-based media artist / experimental musician in exile sainsŵn. The duo explores minor identity and offers extreme deconstruction of language, music and tradition. It exists in a remote domain linking the ancient to modernist sound poetry / letterism and contemporary audio-visual media.

The duo, while passionate advocates of Welsh language and culture, are also aware of the dangers of nationalisms of any kind. gglec is trying to explore new creative forms, in order to propagate new social forms; inclusive and multiple invitations for diverse participation in a social body true to what the Welsh tell ourselves about friendliness, radical politics and hospitality. To this end, we are currently exploring a new genre of writing, image-making and sound organisation – Welsh pink noire (noire pinc Gymreag).

* Gyorgy Ono (DJ Set)

Gyorgy Ono is a Georgian artist whose work explores fragmentation through a spice of occult exotica from spoken word, hissy cassette experiments, and slithery snake rhythms amongst blissfully delinquent ambiances of borrowed sounds. A timelessness arises from this sonic archaeology, whether in his audiovisual Netil radio ‘Icarus Blue’ residency, curation of the diverse and genre-spanning Creatures rave, or all the rogue frequencies he traces from thin air

* Cerpintxt

Cerpintxt is an electroacoustic and darkjazz post-ape progress report from the cosmic madhouse, through the medium of voice, auto-destruction, wind-guided experiments in protoconversation. Her work is concerned with generating an invented language of a particular strain of softness through phonetic entropy and augmented instrumentation. The textural counterparts of her sound rely on broken turntablism, prepared Indonesian zither, seismic microphones, and hydrophones processed through tape recorders. The hauntological element of her work explores a form of sonic activism against the weaponisation of love in Egypt. Some of Cerpintxt's projects underway include a noir-jazz album of interpretations of Egyptian ballads, a semi-improvisational musical game system on the fragmentation and de-contextualizion of memories, site-specific works in the mountains of the Sinai Peninsula and Serabit El Khadim (Egypt), and ethnic heritage projects documenting music of the East Sinai Bedouin tribes.

Boundary Condition engulfs the collective mass longing for a past that never was, through studies in its sonic materialization stretching across the hyper-romantic limbo of post-Lynchian Darkjazz, the flickering scenarios and found sounds of Musique Concrète, and inert cyclicality of hauntological loops, projecting the residue of all that which could have been, as prosthetic sentiments. Via post instrument instrumentals, permutated compositions, site responsivity, missing fundamentals, severe interdependence, and retrograding structures
