"Bringing It Back"

Hope Mills, NC - New York City based artist, Jonathon Lee Shannon, will be showing his new exhibition, Bringing It Back, at the new Dirtbag Ales located at 5435 Corporation on June 3rd. This event is free and open to the public.

"Bringing it Back" is inspired by Shannon's desire to bring his art created in NYC back to his hometown to inspire his friends, family and community to dream big. His work explores the relationship between abstraction, cubism, surrealism, impressionism, and expressionism. He's developed a concept to see the world through a new lens called Reverse Reality, with influences like Matisse, Van Gogh, Dali, Picasso, Cezanne and De Kooning.

Shannon is a New York City-based artist originally from Fayetteville, North Carolina, whocreates plein-air throughout the city. The concept Reverse Reality is the notion conceived from the reversal of the two basic forms of life, organic and geometric. It pushes the boundaries of how paint can be applied to the surface by reversing these two forms, making organic forms of life, like people and trees, into simplified flat geometric shapes, in contrast the geometric forms of life, like building, cars, and man-made objects, are painted more organically and fluid, without hard lines or edges.

Shannon received his BFA at Savannah College of Art andDesign (SCAD). He traveled internationally throughout France and Hong Kongto expand his understanding of art. He received several honorary scholarships and worked with well known artists such as Patrick Dougherty and Xu Bing. During his residency program at Anderson Ranch he gained a deeper understanding of abstract art, which helped him formulate his own concept. Shannon has shown work in many group shows, solo exhibitions, art fairs and museums throughout the United States, Hong Kong and France.
