Chocolate Milk: Movie Screening & Virtual Discussion image

Join us as we celebrate Black Breastfeeding Week for a virtual community discussion of the documentary Chocolate Milk, by Elizabeth Bayne.

All who register for the discussion will receive a private email link to view the documentary 3 days before the virtual group discussion. This will allow you to view the (90 minute) film at a time that is convenient for you. After watching the film, we invite you to join us for a Zoom lunchtime discussion to examine together what we learned from the film.

This event is FREE to the public. However, if you can, a $10 donation is suggested to help support the mission and vision of the NCBC and to support breastfeeding in Northern Colorado

What to expect:

Step 1: Register for the event! (And tell your friends/co-workers!)

Step 2: View the film at a time and place convenient for you. (Link will be emailed to all who register 3 days before the event)

Step 3: Join us for a virtual lunchtime discussion on 8/31/21 from 12-1pm to examine what we learned from the film. (Zoom link will be emailed to all who register prior to the event)

FILM SYNOPSIS: From sexual objectification of women’s breasts to insufficient maternity leave, there are many reasons why mothers in the U.S. struggle with the decision to breastfeed. Yet advocates argue the long-term health benefits to infants - reduced risk of chronic disease, cancer, asthma and obesity - far outweigh the challenges. Add to this the racial, economic and social disparities that plague the African American community, and it’s no wonder African American women breastfeed at significantly lower rates. Chocolate Milk examines how the socioeconomic factors of race and sex influence breastfeeding rates for black mothers in America through the stories of three women.
