CIFF2022: Caribbean Party Screening

Description

Caribbean Pop-Up Cinema is excited to announce its inaugural Caribbean International Film Fest (17 – 23 September) in the West Midlands! CIFF2022 is the only UK Festival showcasing the best in contemporary Caribbean Films, launching at Mockingbird Cinema, and culminating in a Caribbean Party at Eastside Projects.

It’s Carnival Friday! Show off your feathers or beads, bring a flag to represent your Caribbean country, and get ready to two-step with special live performances. Feel free to bring friends and snacks.

This special programmme takes a journey through soca, reggae and dancehall with a number of party-themed films, a Caribbean DJ set and and live performances from international conscious Reggae artist & Reggae Uprising host Danieal.

Showcasing Films:

A Better Tomorrow – Gerelle Forbes, Mark Loquan

This action-packed music video is the first use of Anime style animation within the calypso/soca genre.

Little Moko – Miquel Galofre

A feisty Trinidadian child is introduced to a popular carnival tradition, despite coronavirus putting a halt on the country's festival plans, proving that culture cannot be cancelled.

J’ouvert – Iantha Richardson

J'Ouvert - On the eve of J’Ouvert, a spirited woman wrestles with the decision to return home and care for her chronically ill father, or to embrace his advice and embark on her own Caribbean adventure.

Playing Mas – Miquel Galofre

Carnival in Trinidad & Tobago is described as the greatest show on earth. One of the main events of the week is Mas, captured vibrantly in this film.

Hit Me With Music – Miquel Galofre

30 years after Bob Marley’s death Jamaica continues to be on top of the world-wide music scene. Reggae has evolved to produce a new genre, Dancehall. Anywhere, at any time, tunes created by artistes from the ghetto fill the island’s soundscape. They tell the story of a society whose reality is partially marked by violence and poverty.

This event is brought to you by Caribbean Pop-Up Cinema in collaboration with Eastside Projects. It makes up part of the Caribbean International Film Fest series of screenings. CIFF 2022 is made possible with support from Film Hub Midlands through funds from the National Lottery.
