(8 Weeks, 24 Total Hours of Instruction)

Get ready to paint!

I love the look of expressive landscapes, especially those done by mid-century California artists such as Richard Diebenkorn. His works in particular are part abstract and part realistic, part gestural and part carefully executed with hard edges. For this course we will explore how all these styles work together and why. It will be a blast!

I love to introduce new, innovative techniques that promise to enrich artists as well as their work.

*This is not a repeat of last session's Expressive Landscapes class. It's all new. I will be teaching new techniques and insights. For new artists: No need to have taken the previous Expressive Landscape course, beginners welcome.

MATERIALS: $20 materials fee due first class**

Participants bring to class:

Paints: acrylics, oils, or watercolors (I use acrylics)

Brushes

Water can

Paper towels or rag

Palette

Substrates (heavy duty paper, canvas board, canvas, raw canvas, etc., your choice)

Any experimental tools you wish

Optional: Bring reference materials

**I will be bringing all materials needed for the novel techniques that I will introduce, i.e., photocopies, boards, gels, and some paint.

In addition, masks are required regardless of vaccination status until January 15, 2022.  See below for details:

Fully vaccinated students must present proof of vaccination to the instructor at the first class meeting. Acceptable proof of vaccination:

1.      the physical COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card issued at the time of vaccination;

2.      a photograph of the COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card; or

3.      a digital vaccination record (which can be obtained at https://myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov/)

Students who do not receive COVID-19 vaccinations due to medical reasons or sincerely held religious beliefs can attend classes and workshops but will be required to present the negative results of a COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of each class meeting. Tests other than PCR, such as a rapid test or over-the-counter test, will not be accepted.

Please note that our policy may change as new guidelines and recommendations become available.
