Community Health Worker (CHW) Training

Description

TheeSeeds LCC, has developed a standardized and localized CHW Training Program. Students will be provided basic training on the role of community health workers by introducing community health concepts, resources, and skills related to the role and responsibilities of a Community Health Worker.

Core Competencies of CHW Training:

1. Advocacy and community capacity building skills

2. Effective oral and written communication skills

3. Cultural competency

4. Understanding of ethics and confidentiality issues

5. Knowledge of local resources and system navigation

6. Care coordination support skills

7. Teaching skills to promote healthy behavior change

8. Outreach methods and strategies

9. Understanding of public health concepts and health literacy

The entire curriculum:

  • encompasses a total of 140 hours: 100 instructional hours; and 40 supervised practicum hours
  • uses English language as a medium of instruction.

Educational Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Must provide proof of a High School Diploma or a GED (send directly to Maryland Addiction and Behavioral-health Professionals Certification Board). Student may provide college transcripts in lieu of High School Diploma or GED.
