Critical Theory seminar — Cristina Beltrán, 'Cruelty as Citizenship'

The Critical Theory seminar is thrilled to host Cristina Beltrán (NYU) on Tuesday, May 17. Beltrán will give a talk based on her latest book, Cruelty as Citizenship: How Migrant Suffering Sustains White Democracy.

The seminar will run from 5:15 pm to 6:45 pm GMT on Tuesday, May 24 (Week 5). A limited number of participants will be able to attend in person in the Lecture Room 6 at New College, Oxford. Everyone else is welcome to join us online. (*Please note the changed location from All Souls & Nuffield College.*)

The Critical Theory seminar at Oxford brings scholars who work on aspects of radical political theory or social critique. Past speakers have drawn on a range of different conversations within critical theory, including the Frankfurt School, French poststructuralism, various Marxisms, intersectional feminisms, anticolonial thinking, psychoanalysis, critical ecology, and antiracist critique.
