Cycle from Glasgow to Trans Pride Scotland

Description

Trans Cycling Pride!

Many years ago my friend, who is a lesbian and keen motorcyclist decided to organise a Dykes on Bikes block at Brighton Pride. Knowing I was crazy about bicycles she asked me if I'd like to coordinate a cycling block. I jumped at the chance. We decided to call the block Queers with Gears. It was amazing!

As a queer non-binary person I've struggled with dysphoria and street harassment regarding my gender identity but riding my bike has helped me to feel grounded in my body and empowered by knowing my body has got me where I wanted to go. I've also found cycling as part of a group an amazing way to reclaim the streets and gain confidence cycling.

I was at the first Trans Pride in Brighton and I am so pleased that Scotland now has it's own Trans Pride!

I'd like to bring this sense of Trans Cycling Pride to Trans Pride Scotland.

So I'd like to invite you to cycle from Glasgow to Trans Pride Scotland in Paisley with Bike for Good!

We'll meet at Bike for Good South where there'll be a bit of time to add Pride decorations to your bike.

The 9 mile route goes through Queens Park, Pollok Park and along the National Cycle Route 7 and 75 to Paisley. We will take a relaxed pace, with plenty of breaks to make the ride accessible to people of all fitness levels, so please bring water and snacks. The route includes pretty traffic-free sections through the parks and along White Cart Water, as well as some sections on the road but Bike for Good ride leaders will be there to support the group. In terms of cycling ability you should be able to use your gears, signal and look over your right should whilst cycling along. If you need any support to feel confident doing this please contact robind@bikeforgood.org.uk

Please also let us know if you need to borrow a bike and helmet. If you are bringing your own bike please ensure it is in good working order. If you are borrowing a bike you will need to make your own arrangements to travel home, as the bikes will be collected in Paisley so you can enjoy the workshops and after-party!

You can view the route here.

Please email robind@bikeforgood.org.uk if you have any questions or if you need to borrow a bike.

Looking forward to it!
