DESCRIPTION:

Schooling from home (or home from school) and looking for a way to add science enrichment to your week? Join New Jersey Audubon Staff as we use local phenomena to explore the world around us. Students will spend the two hours outdoors on the Lorrimer Sanctuary property participating in hands-on, inquiry-based activities to help them develop an understanding of nature. We will use Nature and the Next Generation Science Standards as a guide during this 8-week program.

Children must currently be in 1st through 4th grade to participate.

The Dirty Hands Club spends much time as possible outdoors. Children should be prepared for the weather including wet and muddy conditions. Class sizes are limited to 5 children per session.

New Jersey Audubon’s Lorrimer Sanctuary is not a licensed child care center.

COST: For entire 8-week program, 1 day a week (Thursdays) from 3pm - 5pm. Winter sesion will run December 2nd - January 28th (no class on Thursday December 23).

Kirsten Holt is a New Jersey Certified Teacher and has been an Environmental Educator for over 13 years. Mary Birrer has taught Environmental Education curriculum in nature centers throughout New Jersey, and most recently ran Lorrimer Sanctuary’s Summer Camp experience.

NEW JERSEY AUDUBON'S PROGRAM GUIDELINES:

All staff and participants must wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status while indoors. Sanitizing stations and plexiglass will remain in place to continue to encourage people to be mindful of health practices and to respect people’s personal space.

DAYS: Thursdays, from December 2nd to January 28th (no class 12/23/21).

TIME: 3:00pm - 5:00pm.

CANCELLATION: : NJ Audubon’s programs require a minimum number of registrants to run. If we cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, all participants will be notified as soon as possible and are eligible for a full refund. Participants may cancel without penalty if greater than 48 hours in advance. Sorry, no refund for cancellations less than 48 hours in advance unless due to health emergencies; however registrations can be transferred to another program in the future.
