The Drum Major Leadership Academy (DMLA) is the leading producer in virtual leadership and conducting education within the marching arts activity. With a team of 50+ educators, DMLA has brought life-changing experiences to more than 3,000 students across the country!

Our educational team consists of seasoned and energetic instructors who have hands-on experience leading the country's top marching ensembles. They teach drum major students year-round in private lessons, regional workshops, summer camps, and more!

Masterclasses

Performers in the National Drum Major Competition receive exclusive access to 3 conducting masterclasses. In these interactive sessions, participants can ask questions and work alongside some of the activity's greatest drum majors!

Video Feedback

Every performer receives videotaped feedback from 2 or more DMLA conducting instructors. Feedback is delivered in a positively-constructive way, allowing participants to learn and improve their abilities as conductors, communicators, and performers.

Educational Evaluation

In addition to video feedback, every performer receives a detailed score sheet from each of their judges. This score sheet includes actionable information and pointers to help take your conducting to the next level.

The National Drum Major Competition will conclude with a championship broadcast on December 18, 2021. All competitors will be celebrated for their outstanding achievements and champions will be announced.

First, second, and third place winners from each division will recieve a medal. Additionally, every competitor will receive a 2021 National Drum Major Competition Patch and Certificate of National Achievement following the event.

Note: You do NOT need to attend this event in order to compete.
