[Entrepreneur Talk] Are tech skills needed to launch a company?

Description

4 successful entrepreneurs working in different fields of activities. Their common point? They all sat on Le Wagon's bench, to learn how to code and get ready for their next professional steps.

They all decided to learn to code, even though becoming a developer was not always what they had in mind afterward.

So, you'll tell me: why learn such skills if not to make a career out of it? And what did it bring them? Well, turns out it could as well have been the push they needed to finally take the jump and make that business idea come true!

In fact, their training didn't stop by just teaching them coding skills. They also went over topics such as prototyping, building an MVP, project management, and more! Learnings they get to put into practice on a regular basis.

Are we going to only focus on their passage at Le Wagon? No, we want to highlight our alumni, their journey, successes, and challenges they faced as entrepreneurs. From when they first started thinking of launching a business to where they are now. And for you to learn more about what's behind the word entrepreneurship and to get inspired by their stories. Because we sure are.

Let us introduce our wonderful speakers:

✨ Alessandro Drappa - co-founder of Recovr

He was already thinking of launching a fintech while studying at Solvay Business School and joined Le Wagon to turn his business idea into a prototype to validate the idea. Since then, he launched Recovr in 2017, a credit management software that takes care of the whole credit management and debt collection process. The goal: help SMEs to stop worrying about unpaid invoices! He's now gearing up to expand outside of Belgium, recently raising 800 000€ to support this global expansion.

✨ Kevin de Patoul - co-founder of Keyrock

Starting as a Consultant, Kevin always had in mind of joining a startup. But founding one. Well, a turn of events made it happen (and yes, it is called Le Wagon!). He co-founded Keyrock in 2017, diving into the world of Crypto. Keyrock’s purpose is to provide easy access to liquidity in the digital asset space, thus facilitating growth, stability, and financial freedom through supporting markets. They now went over 3 rounds of funding, raising over €6M in total, the first one being at the MVP stage, the latest round from a Series A round.

✨Adrien Van Der Branden, co-founder of Canyon

After graduating in corporate law, Adrien worked as a business lawyer in international law firms. He then learned to code to bridge the gap between law and technology. After a few years, he went on to co-found Canyon with Thomas Vanderstraeten (also a former Wagoner), a legal tech company that helps companies save time by automating legal processes. Canyon has recently been acquired by Yousign, the European leader in eSignature for SMBs!

Marie Loge - co-founder of Imagine Belgium, now heading toward new entrepreneurial adventures!

After graduating from commercial engineering at ICHEC, she worked in the finance sector before going to Malaysia to work for a belgium SME with the Prince Albert Fund.

Once she came back to Belgium, she joined Le Wagon to learn to code. Since then, she co-founded Imagine Belgium, a virtual reality experience to explore Belgium. Next to that, she also developed the Cocoon project, a crowdfunding campaign to open a tiny house on the Grand Place in Brussels.

She's now on her way to new adventures and we can't wait to see where she is headed to!
