Having an eviction record can make it hard to find housing. A new law makes it easier to seal old eviction records but only until July 2022.

Lawyers’ Committee for Better Housing , Communities United, and State Representative LaShawn K Ford are helping tenants seal old eviction records. Get help at this event, register in advance or walk in.

All information about sealing clinics can be found at lcbh.org/sealing. We can only assist with cases filed in the State of Illinois as this is an Illinois State Law. We will need to have your eviction case number to assist you. If you do not have your case number or information about the case, we can try to look it up however we cannot guarantee that we will be able to find it.

We strongly encourage everyone to get their motions to seal filed with the court by July 14th so that you can have a hearing date with the judge prior to the end of July, when this temporary sealing law expires. The Illinois General Assembly has not extended this law so on August 1, 2022 it will cease to exist.
