They will talk about the difference in art curation process between digital exhibits and physical installations, their views on the connection between art pieces and locations and how digital medium like AR opens opportunities for grassroots public art installations.

About Guest Speakers

George Fifield

George Fifield is the founding director of Boston Cyberarts Inc., a nonprofit arts organization, which programs numerous art and technology projects, including Art on the Marquee on a large public LED screen in front of the South Boston Convention Center and running the Boston Cyberarts Gallery in Jamaica Plain. He is an independent curator of New Media with numerous projects here and abroad. For thirteen years until 2006, Fifield was Curator of New Media at the DeCordova Sculpture park and Museum in Lincoln, MA. He was executive co-producer for The Electronic Canvas, an hour-long documentary on the history of the media arts that aired on PBS in 2000. Fifield writes on a variety of media, technology and art topics for numerous publications.

Michael Lewy

Michael Lewy is an artist who works in various media, including photography, video, augmented reality, and virtual reality. He received his MFA from Massachusetts College of Art in 1996; He is a freelance video editor, graphic designer, and illustrator for such clients as the New York Times book review and HiLow books. He is also the author of Chart Sensation, a book of PowerPoint charts, and has shown at the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, the Pacific Film Archives, and Carroll and Sons Gallery in Boston. He is the art curator of “Alpha 60”, an experimental Augmented Reality exhibition located in the Emerald Necklace in Boston, MA. He currently lives in Jamaica Plain, MA, with his wife and daughter.
