This seminar is brought to you by PACER (Parent and Child Educational Resources). The goal of this seminar is to educate parents and caregivers about the impact of custody changes and conflict on children's lives along with help resolving conflict that develops. This effort is in partnership with the PA County Court. The Court wants all parents and caregivers who are party to petitions filed regarding the custody and financial support of minor children to have a better understanding of the court process, how the court makes decisions regarding "The Best Interest" of children for child custody litigation , and the factors that those decisions are based on. PACER also intends to provide parents and caregivers a benchmark of information on the developmental needs of children, an improved understanding of the effects of conflict on family relationships, a focus on communication styles, and how to reduce hostility and resolve issues collaboratively with other parents and caregivers in the interest of fostering greater autonomy for families and lessening the need for intervention by the court and other agencies.

"The Families in Change and Conflict Seminar" explores the many challenges that may be faced by families who are living separately or who are separating and now experiencing changes and conflict regarding child custody issues. Focus is on “taking a look” at the impact and the challenges this environment presents to family members, concentrated especially on the lives of children.

It is not our goal to impose the content of this seminar in the form of the right way to parent, or the right way of things to do. Change has always been and will always be an act of self-will and self-determination. It is our goal to educate parents and caregivers on some best practices to find solutions for issues in conflict, and to assist parents and caregivers in providing an environment to meet the developmental needs of their children free of adult hostilities and conducive to their future success. Our hope is that you will find the seminar a valuable and informative experience and that your child’s best interest will become your guiding principle as you move forward during difficult times.
