Kuriosity LEGO Robotics Mini-Series (Every Saturday for 4 weeks 10/15-11/5)

Description

We are Kuriosity Robotics, a two-time NorCal champion (currently reigning) and World Championship Design Award-winning FTC team based in Palo Alto, CA. Our team aims to inspire youth to pursue their STEM passions.

One of our current foremost initiatives is hosting a LEGO Spike series to kickstart the journey of young engineers by providing them with the knowledge to pursue their robotics endeavors!

This series of classes (every Saturday for 4 weeks) costs a total of $25, which should be paid prior to the start of the sessions.

Here is an overview of what will be taught over the duration of the classes:

Week 1 (October 15th):

Teach basics of programming such as movement and variables as well as the LEGO Spike coding interface

Introduction to building using a control hub and sensors

Mini-Game for students to test their models and improve upon their code

Week 2 (October 22):

Part 1:

Implementing time into code to perform various tasks on a customized base

A fun way to include student creativity into robots by setting basic conditions on the motors

Part 2:

Learning intake and outtake mechanisms for robots

Introduction to gears, motors, and turret mechanisms

Week 3 (October 29):

Advanced concepts of conditionals and loops

Possible exploration of nested conditionals and exception statements

Customizing feedback loops from the control hub

Week 4 (November 5):

Introduction to FLL competition concepts

Extensive use of distance sensors and gyro sensors

The final game with two student-created teams to model FLL competitions

Remember, please bring a computer with LEGO® Education SPIKE App v. 2.0.8 downloaded. You can find the download link here: https://education.lego.com/en-us/downloads/spike-app/software. Please also download all the units listed in the LEGO Spike Prime section of the App.

The workshop will be held outdoors right in front of our robotics workshop so as to expose children to our engineering design process while they learn. Masks are required.

Please text (408) 744-2061 or email kuriosityrobotics@gmail.com for any questions or additional information.

We look forward to seeing you all there!
