Language Justice Basics

Description

Any conversation about diversity, equity, and inclusion has to include language justice: every person's right to communicate, understand, and be understood in the language in which they prefer and feel most articulate and powerful. But what does that mean and how do we do that? Esme joins #CultureFix to explore:

  • A working definition and understanding of language justice
  • How issues of race, gender, class, etc intersect with language justice
  • Practical things you can do to practice language justice in your interpersonal relationships
  • Tools and resources for incorporating language justice into your workplaces, workshops, community gatherings, materials, and other events

By the end of the hour, you'll have an applicable framework for language justice, with plenty of time to network and ask questions in a learning-orientated space.

This event will be held in English only. Closed captioning will be provided. If you have other accessibility needs, please contact the event organizer. To request American Sign Language interpretation, please contact the organizer at least 5 days before the start of the event.
