Now in its ninth cycle, MAKE Literary Productions’s Lit & Luz Festival of Language, Literature, and Art continues to support the creation of new art through international collaboration, and make space for essential dialogues between residents of Mexico and the United States.

The 2022 festival is themed “Revision”—re-envisioning the arts in light of the pandemic, reconsidering the canon, and revising for the future.

This cultural festival runs October 31-November 5 with more than a dozen free, bilingual events taking place at venues throughout Chicago, as well as online. Programming partners include Chicago Art Department, Contratiempo/Co-Prosperity Sphere, and the Hideout.

The festival’s signature event, the Live Magazine Show, is co-presented on November 3rd with the University of Chicago’s Logan Center for the Arts. At this ticketed program, six pairs of Mexico- and Chicago-based participants debut multimedia collaborative pieces they have been working on the prior months.

At its heart, Lit & Luz is a cultural exchange between writers, visual artists, and musicians from Mexico and United States. With the festival taking place first in Chicago, then Mexico City, it is a conversation between two countries. Past participants include luminaries such as Krista Franklin, Cristina Rivera Garza, Valeria Luiselli, José Olivarez, Jac Jemc, and Erika L. Sánchez.

En su noveno ciclo, el Festival Lit & Luz de Lengua, Literatura y Arte de MAKE Literary Productions sigue apoyando la creación de arte novedoso y creando espacios para fomentar diálogos vitales entre artistas residentes de México y Estados Unidos.

El festival de este año 2022 tiene la temática “Revisión”, para re-enfocar las artes a la luz de la pandemia, reconsiderar el canon y revisar el futuro.

Este festival cultural será del 31 de octubre al 05 de noviembre con más de una docena de eventos bilingües gratuitos tanto en línea como presenciales, que tendrán lugar en distintos foros de Chicago.
