The Event

This is a financial literacy workshop that will focus on covering the basics of budgeting 101. It is intended for first-generation students and professionals who want to gain control of their finances and align them with their long-term goals.

This workshop will cover the following topics:

• What is your money story?
• What is a budget and what are different budgeting styles
• How do you actually budget?
• How do you set achievable budgeting goals?
• Value-aligned spending, what is it and why do that?
• Proven debt pay-off methods for small and large forms of debt
• How to stay on track with your budget?

You'll also learn about useful budgeting and personal finance tools and resources and leave the workshop with a copy of a budgeting excel sheet for various budgeting styles.

The event will be held at 1pm PST, 4pm EST, and 8pm WET. Please plan accordingly.

The Speaker

Dra. Yvette Martínez-Vu is a Chicana mother-scholar who works as an academic coach and consultant. She has a Ph.D. in Theater and Performance Studies from UCLA. She is the producer and host of the Grad School Femtoring podcast and founder of Grad School Femtoring, LLC where she empowers first-generation students of color as they navigate higher education. Dr. Martínez-Vu is a founding member of Chicana M(other)work, a collective of Chicana mother-scholars, and she is co-editor of The Chicana Motherwork Anthology: Porque Sin Madres No Hay Revolución (University of Arizona Press 2019). She recently transitioned out of academia after working in higher ed for over ten years and has relocated her family from California to Portugal.

Yes, the event will be recorded and all registrants will receive a link to the recording shortly after the event ends.
