Mala Making Meditation Workshop

Description

Part I: Making The Mala

Creating a mala bead necklace is a form of meditation, binding both you to your intentions and the beads. As you string your beads you will think about your goals and aspirations.

As you string each bead, you will be connecting your intentions and self-love to the mala. Once you finish your mala, it will serve as a reminder of the intentions you set during the process of making it and will forever be special to you or the person you give it to.

This is the bulk of the workshop but surely worth it.

Part II: Mala Meditation

After we finish making our mala, we will learn how to use it during a meditation practice by pairing it with a powerful mantra.

Mala kit included:

Handmade hemp tassel with charm & guru bead

Hemp cord

Choice of beads (Natural Gem Stone, Wood, Rudraksha Seeds) You will only need 108 but will receive 109 for the guru bead.

Hemp is used for sustainability. The wood beads can be used to diffuse your favorite essential oils and will naturally start to pick up the oils from your skin, making the mala even more a part of you.

Snacks and beverages will be available and are included.

What are Mala Beads?

Mala actually originated in India and were used to keep track of the days and to keep accounts. This was a simple way of recording without writing things down, instead seeds were used. These seeds were most often rudraksha seeds (which are still prevalent in “modern” Mala beads) and were either laid out in rows or strung up. Today malas come in many shapes, sizes and materials and usually include 108 mantra beads and one guru or decorative bead.

Mala and Prayer or Meditation

Mala beads are used in prayer and meditation, similar to a rosary, but with mantras for each bead, rather than a prayer. The Mala is meant to help you to remain focused, they do this by being a tactile reminder of what you are meant to be doing – meditating.
