Motivational Interviewing (MI) has become a highly sought-after skill for professionals in social services settings. MI professionals work with clients to identify what thoughts and feelings cause unhealthy or unwanted behaviors. Attending this workshop will assist providers in learning beginner skills for working with clients at various stages of treatment.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Participants will learn the definitions of key concepts used in Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Participants will learn MI principles to implement in social services settings
  • Participants will be able to identify the 5 stages of change in clients
  • Participants will be able to demonstrate beginning MI skills via role-play scenarios

Presenter

Janel Holland is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Minister, and Entrepreneur who has dedicated her life to transforming the lives of both individuals and families by building healthy relationships. Janel founded Power for Living Enterprises, LLC., blending ministry and mental health for those in need of guidance and care along life’s journey. Throughout her career, she has conducted numerous workshops and professional presentations within her area of expertise.

Ms. Holland’s education includes an Associate Degree in Religious Arts and Biblical Studies from Jacksonville Theological Seminary, a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from San Diego State University, and a Master of Social Work from Savannah State University.

Dr. Mia R. Wilson has been in the counseling field for over 24 years. She is a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Georgia Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Addiction Professional, National Certified Counselor, Master Addiction Counselor and Certified Traumatalogist. Dr. Wilson received her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at Nova Southeastern University in 2001 and obtained her Doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology at Argosy University in 2010.

Dr. Wilson has maintained a private practice in Jacksonville, FL for over 16 years. She has works with various organizations such as the military, professional sport teams, major corporations, churches, nonprofit organizations, medical organizations, and law firms. She works with adults and adolescents who is experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, grief, relationships, stress related concerns, Veterans issues and women issues. She also has conduct Psychological First Aid during times of nature and man-made disasters.

Dr. Wilson has made appearances on both national and local television shows. She has written articles for National magazines and peer journals.

Is there a fee for this training?
