National Indigenous Peoples Day (NIPD) Calgary 2022 (In-person & Virtually)

Description

Join Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and the Calgary Public Library on National Indigenous Peoples Day (NIPD) to celebrate and learn about Indigenous ways of knowing and being. Participate in-person or register to access live streaming of the morning and/or evening events!

Educational Keynote, presented by ATB Financial and CN: 9:30am-12:00pm. Indigenous Hall of Famer, Chief Wilton Littlechild, will be delivering an educational keynote where youth and visitors will learn about his journey of going beyond the win from achieving greatness in sport to doing good in his community. (Ermineskin Cree Nation – Treaty 6).

Following the keynote, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on, curriculum-aligned activities such as guided Indigenous language lessons, artefact tables featuring Hall of Famer memorabilia, traditional Indigenous games, and more!

Evening Panel Discussion, presented by Black Diamond Group: 5:00pm-7:00pm. Panel discussion on the Role of Sport on the Path to Reconciliation featuring Hall of Famer, Sharon Anne Firth, Tom Longboat Award Winner, James Lavallée, Fitness Trainer/Wellness Advocate, Kendra Jessie Rosychuk , President of Indigenous Sport Council Alberta, Shannon Dunfield, Senior Indigenous Relations Officer, Black Diamond Group, Scott McLeod, and VP & COO, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, Janice Smith.

Tickets are available (free of charge!) to register for in-person or livestream access for both the Educational Keynote and Evening Panel Discussion. In-person ticket quantities are limited.
