OKIBGC Charity Golf Tournament

Description

The Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB) Group of Companies is planning to host the 1st Annual Charity Golf Tournament at The Rise Golf Course in Vernon on Friday, September 23rd.

Proceeds will go to the OKIB to assist with building the nḱmaplqs iʔ snḿaḿ áy aʔtn iʔ ḱl sqilxʷtət ‘head of the lake where our children go learn our Indigenous ways’ – New Cultural Immersion School. Our tournament will host over 150 businesses and entrepreneurs from near and far.

“The school first opened in 1997 in a section of the Early Childhood Education Centre and later expanded to offer a full elementary program (grades K-7) by 2010. Enrolment has grown 11% annually over the past 20 years, demonstrating the continuing desire for parents and children to learn the sqilxʷ language and culture through an immersive curriculum.” – Gareth Jones, Director of the OKIB Education Department.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, our construction date has been pushed back due to lack of available funds, and we are now working towards opening the school doors in 2026.

It is our goal to raise $100,000 at the Golf Tournament this year to support the development of our school.

If you are interested in learning more about our exclusive sponsorship opportunities, and/or would like to donate to the new school project, please do not hesitate to contact Tetku Marchand on her cell at 250-540-1872, or by email at golf@okibgc.ca.
