One Book One World IN: 2022 AAPI Book Drive

The West Lafayette Chinese American community volunteers and Greater Lafayette Immigrant Allies (GLIA) are currently fundraising for 2022 One Book One World IN.

We read to explore; we read to understand; we read to appreciate; we read to unite.

With the approaching Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month (May 1- May 31), the West Lafayette Chinese American community volunteers are organizing the One Book One World IN: 2022 AAPI Book Drive, alongside parents and GLIA. As part of the celebration of the AAPI Heritage Month, this event is inviting the public to donate to help local schools to buy AAPI related books. We hope reading these books can raise our next generation’s awareness and appreciation of the various cultures and stories within the AAPI community.

The West Lafayette Chinese American community volunteers and GLIA are fundraising to supply local schools in West Lafayette with the books selected by scholars and experts that can promote recognition of AAPIs’ history and contributions to society. The theme of the booklist this year is “hope.” We believe reading and learning about different cultures can bring hope to our communities and in our country.

一书一视界：透过阅读，我们能让下一代充满“希望”

身为亚太裔，你如何向下一代诉说你的故事？我们的孩子，又该如何向来自其他不同文化背景的孩子们，介绍我们的文化？

或许，阅读是一种很好的方式。透过阅读亚太裔文化相关书籍，孩子们可以自发、主动去探索书中的世界，并与自身生活做连结，逐渐萌芽与认识亚太裔文化与传统。书籍是种子，每每翻阅书籍，孩子们的心中就播种着嫩芽，静待时日，便会绽放出文明之花。然而，由于缺乏资源和经费，许多公立学校无法为孩子们提供亚太裔文化相关书籍，孩子们也因此失去了许多接触与认识亚太裔文化的机会。

五月是亚太裔文化传统月（Asain Pacific American Heritage Month）。为庆祝亚太裔文化月的一环，西拉法叶华人社区志愿者与本地公益团体大拉法叶移民联合会（GLIA）及热心的家长们，诚挚邀请您一同加入今年2022“一书一视界：One Book One World ”的捐书活动。我们希望借由此活动，向大众募款，为所需学校购买由专家与学者所精选出来多本亚太裔文化相关的书籍，赠予我们的孩子。

今年赠书书单主题：希望 Hope。

在后疫情时代，我们需要希望；在仇恨暴力与犯罪持续发生的今日，我们需要希望。而阅读，可以点燃希望的火苗。美华协会诚挚邀请您，一同参与“一书一视界：One Book One World”的募款活动，让更多孩子们能透过书籍，认识与理解亚太裔文化与传统。为我们所处的社会、为我们的下一代，带来希望。
