Powerful Learning Experiences for Students with Disabilities

Description

LearnLaunch is excited to partner with Special Education Leadership Fellowship to offer a free, 90-minute virtual workshop on Powerful Learning Experiences for Students with Disabilities. This workshop will support school and district leaders to deepen their understanding of how to design learning experiences that are engaging, deep, and meaningful for students at all ability levels, but especially for students with disabilities. Join us to connect with other leaders in Massachusetts, and work together to:

  • Examine the mindset shifts required to design powerful learning experiences for students with disabilities;
  • Develop an understanding of the Expert Learner framework and Universal Design for Learning;
  • Reflect on your own practice and the practice of teachers at your school/district;
  • Learn with and from peers; and,
  • Leave with an actionable next step.

Facilitated by Special Education Leader Fellowship (SELF)

The Special Education Leader Fellowship (SELF) was founded by Aqua Stovall in New Orleans seven years ago to build special education leaders’ expertise to ensure all students, regardless of academic ability or race, can receive an excellent education in public schools. Since then SELF has added a series of programs focused on increasing student achievement in all educational settings by supporting teachers, leaders and schools with specialized training and job-embedded coaching. Across all programs, SELF is committed to supporting and retaining educators of color.

With support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, SELF partnered with McREL International for a three-year evaluation of the Leader Fellowship. Preliminary data shows 95% of leaders who participated in the fellowship stated that it helped them in their roles. In Louisiana, 83% of the leader fellow schools beat the average for Top Growth for Disability Subgroups. In the past year, SELF partnered with schools in Los Angeles and received an exploratory grant to expand into Colorado. To learn more about SELF, please visit their website.
