Recording of SheJumps Alpine Development School 2021

Description

From novices to seasoned backcountry users, the Alpine Development School shares critical knowledge for safe and successful alpine pursuits.

The SheJumps Alpine Development School (ADS) presented by Arc'teryx is a three-part online lecture series created by the nonprofit SheJumps in partnership with ACMG certified guide, Christine Feleki. ADS provides an overview on backcountry risk management, terrain identification, and how to build a personal process that integrates into backcountry touring. From novices to seasoned backcountry users, the ADS is an opportunity to build a skill set or refresh knowledge that will help you be self-sufficient in the mountains. The ADS curriculum is drawn from the SheJumps Alpine Finishing School curriculum, a multiday ski and splitboard mountaineering course developed over 9 years by ACMG ski guides Kate Devine, Anne Keller, Diny Harrison, Shannon Werner, and Christine Feleki.

2021 SheJumps Alpine Development School online course offerings:

Risk Management + Decision Making

  • This presentation focuses on different types of hazards and how to assess risk while in the backcountry. Topics covered include decision making, risk tolerance, vulnerability, the human factor, and more.

Terrain Identification + Management

  • This presentation will explore different types of terrain features and how they contribute to your safety and overall objectives. Learning how to properly identify and manage terrain is a powerful strategy that can build confidence when in unfamiliar terrain.

Building Your Process

  • Learn how to apply risk-management, decision-making, and terrain observations to your backcountry routine. This session will introduce a framework to think through trip planning, leveraging map tools, gear planning, avalanche assessment tools, and reflection—so that each time you go out you’re learning and evolving.

Price: US$15 per course recording. A separate ticket purchase is required for each recording.

Ticket price includes a recoding of one ADS course led by ACMG certified guide, Christine Feleki , and a SheJumps Alpine Development School workbook (PDF download) to use throughout the season. If you wish to receive a recording of a different class, you must also register for that specific class.

Course format: Presentation will run for approximately one hour, followed by a Q&A session.
