The Book:

‘Reflections of Her’; a collection of poetry, prose and positive affirmations from D. Kalan.

The author offers a personal insight into that which has modelled the character he upholds today. Raised by a single mother; a victim of and witness to domestic violence and abuse, he learnt through life’s trials to hold special regard towards women in all matters, irrespective of the standards that many in society have deemed appropriate.

The moon exists without a light of its own, and yet it illuminates the sky, reflecting the light of the sun, with a unique purpose. ‘Reflections of Her’ seeks to expound the realisations that he exists, like the moon, as a reflection of every woman he has ever been fortunate to encounter and learn from.

Words are conveyed alongside hand drawn illustrations from the author, helping the reader navigate through the pages fully connected, inclined towards balance and mindfulness.

The book is divided into three states; Acceptance: experiencing, embracing and humbly receiving that which life shares; Admission: an acknowledgement of truth in all conditions; Affirmation: consciously committing to uphold and support a pathway of healing, growth and light.
