My China Roots (MCR) is celebrating our 1st Community Anniversary with a festive weekend of live storytelling and research support (August 19-22). You're invited!
In this hands-on "Research Lab" on Zoom, you'll have the opportunity to:
- Crowd-source advice from fellow detectives for your burning family history questions
- Dive deep into your ancestral research with real-time help with Genealogy Gurus experienced in translating Chinese names and records, locating villages in China, and archiving stories for posterity
Over the past year, the My China Roots community has brought together over 1,200 detectives helping each other trace our family stories on Discord. Whether you're a veteran genealogist or simply curious about your roots, Research Lab welcomes you to receive and offer personalized support!
How to Join
The anniversary event will be held on Zoom. Once you register on Eventbrite, you will receive the Zoom meeting link via email.
Video camera is encouraged but not required. This event will NOT be recorded!
What to Prepare
- BYOBrick Walls: What challenges are you facing as you explore your roots? What questions do you have about Chinese genealogy research?
- If you know, the romanized and/or Chinese characters for (a) the name of your ancestor who migrated overseas and (b) the name of their village in China
- Digitized (screen-shareable) documents or photos you'd like help with deciphering
