About This Virtual Experience

Botany is often a topic that comes off as boring or too daunting to even begin to dig into, but it is a fascinating science that helps you better understand how plants interact with the world. There have been several studies in the last two decades on Green Blindness, also referred to as Plant Blindness. This is described as an inability to decipher different plants, whether trees or flowers, but instead see plants as a mere backdrop of tangled green rather than a living, breathing ecosystem.

Decode botanical Latin by breaking down root words. Learn how to use the dichotomous keys found in guide books and how to identify common features that will help you narrow plants down to families and species.

We will practice vocabulary that will help you better understand and connect to plants around you, and discuss history, including notable plant explorers that brought species and their knowledge to opposite sides of the globe.

Come tap into that knowledge and change how you perceive the world moving forward. Learn to recognize the trees along your street, the flowers you see in local green spaces, and how your vegetables and culinary herbs are related!

What You Will Need

• Notebook and a writing utensil.

Botanical history, anatomy, categorization, identification, ecological systems and relationships, endangered species, and botanical latin.
