Son Rompe Pera
Son Rompe Pera is the Gogol Bordello of cumbia; the essence of cumbia punk. You've heard marimbas before, and garage rock, and cumbia. But here is a new genre of music from Mexico City that did not exist before Son Rompe Pera: garage-marimba-cumbia-punk. Think of the Misfits with cha-cha-cha and psychedelia - More danceable but equally punk. A pan-Latin psychobilly that must be seen live, coming this Summer to Montague for their U.S. debut.
The three Gama brothers grew up playing the folkloric marimba with their father, often busking with him on the streets from morning to evening. It's a remarkable story--working class musicians growing up in a folk tradition that, through raw creativity and punk spirit, dismantled the inherited sound and reinvented it through the vehicle of cumbia. Their music and style will bring in an audience as wide ranging as working-class Mexicans, global music lovers, and young hipsters. Reliable sources tell us they are one of the best live acts on the plane
Con Couto
Don Couto is an DJ, artist and music producer who finds inspiration in the art of the peripheries (like el Barrio or Favelas). As a DJ, he finds tropical sounds to be the perfect tool to soround his audience in a catartic ritual dance. Don Couto wants to bring the warmth of those less favored communities who find joy and peace through music. His live performance is an audio visual experience
Talacha
NYC based, label executive producer and creative director Talacha is a cumbia vinyl selector. Originally from San Miguel de Allende via Oaxaca he currently focuses on 7” cumbia roots. From deep crate bangers to popular dance floor classics, he offers an array of unique tracks that frame the import and export of cumbia in latin america throughout the decades.
Adrian is Hungry
Adrian is Hungry has been collecting and sharing vintage afro-rooted music for the past 6 years in New York City. Tropical sounds from Colombia, New York, the Antilles, Venezuela, Peru, Africa, and more with an emphasis on danceable tunes that hit a nostalgia chord and bring you back to dancing with your tia at a family house party. A traveler and cultural anthropologist at heart, he’s been exploring and rediscovering his cultural identity through music research and curation, creating spaces in Brooklyn to bring this sound back into the Barrio.
