Description

Coolock Church of Ireland invite you to visit our historic church on Tonlegee Road, situated beside the River Santry. The present church, built in 1760 and dedicated to St John the Evangelist, is on the early Celtic site associated with St Brendan the Navigator. The church has two artifacts from the Viking period - a large horizontal granite millstone and a simple granite cross. The stained glass windows represent work by Burne-Jones and Morrison, Childes and Purser and Meyers of Munich. The south window is especially expressive in its interpretation of Sorrow and Joy from Psalm 30. The church will be open between 6.00 pm to 9.00pm, and will provide a sanctuary from the busyness of life.

At 7.15pm, Douglas Appleyard and team will bring us on 'A Twilight Tour of Coolock Graveyard', introducing us to the many types of grave markers which are in this 'country' churchyard and to some of the people therein. As the numbers have to be limited, booking is essential (through Eventbrite). Due to the uneven nature of the ground in an old graveyard with no paths, we are sorry that this tour is not suitable for those in wheelchairs or with walking difficulties.
