Suicide Prevention Intervention and Postvention

Description

This 2-day course explores effective prevention techniques, intervention by peers, Chaplains and Mental Health Professionals, appropriate referral resources and in the event of a completed suicide, what postvention support can be provided. Students will learn the warning signs and risk factors regarding suicide. Students will use the SAFER-R method of individual crisis intervention to access and determine risk of suicide, including asking the question, “Are you thinking of suicide?”. Referring to community resources and for further assessment and treatment will be demonstrated through role plays. Postvention support using CISM interventions will be discussed and role played. This course provides 14 hours of content.
