Since 1995, the Hutchins Center for African & African American Research at Harvard University has presented an annual panel discussion at the historic Old Whaling Church in Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. Leading thinkers in the field of African and African American studies have participated, including Lani Guinier, Melissa Harris-Perry, Charles Ogletree, Orlando Patterson, Cornel West, Patricia Williams, and, in 2004, future President of the United States, Barack Obama.
