Ken Burns and his award-winning colleagues have been making documentaries about America for the past 40 years. Their next film is one of their most important: chronicling one of the greatest humanitarian crises in history and the starkest reckonings for our nation.

Join Kansas City PBS and the Midwest Holocaust Center for Education for a preview screening of The U.S. and the Holocaust, A film by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick & Sarah Botstein, airing on Kansas City PBS this September.

Dr. Shelly M. Cline, Historian for the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education, will provide insight and further illuminate the United States’ position during this time, and how the Holocaust affected Jewish people throughout the world.

In addition, audiences will be able to enjoy a screening of Kansas City PBS’ award-winning documentary All These Delicate Sorrows from Brad Austin, which tells the stories of Holocaust survivors who immigrated to the U.S. and settled in KC.

Dr. Shelly M. Cline is the Historian and Director of Education at the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education in Overland Park KS. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Kansas. Her research focuses on the SS Aufseherinnen in the concentration camp system and the gendered perpetration of the Holocaust. Her research has been supported by grants from the University of Kansas and the Universität Hamburg. She has presented at national and international conferences. Dr. Cline has served on the faculties of the Kansas City Art Institute and the University of Missouri Kansas City, and currently teaches for the Jewish Studies Program at the University of Kansas.
