TRANSFORM ~ Drama Therapy & Hypnosis ~ 4-Week Group Workshop

Description

TRANSFORM: SHED ISOLATION & BURNOUT

This workshop is an opportunity to regain your power. The pandemic has profoundly impacted our mental health on a collective level. Relieved to reconnect yet overwhelmed with social interaction at the same time, we can all sense the threat of anxiety and burnout rising.

This group workshop will help you to acknowledge your needs and set up boundaries, and to redirect people-pleasing energy to regain balance in work and play.

We will use the astrology of the season as a common playground. Scorpio Season calls for grief and transformation because while we crave new beginnings, it first requires endings. The intention is to shed the weight of isolation and burnout using rituals of embodiment and the power of imagination.

Guided by two therapists, here is a generous play space that can help you:

  • Gain techniques that ignite your creativity to help work through nervous system activation.
  • Learn ways to express boundaries that align with your values.

  • Practice strategies for stating boundaries in different relationships such as friends, colleagues, and intimate partners.
  • Access relief from somatic tensions built up from burnout.

We acknowledge that we are guests living and working on unceded traditional Indigenous territory known as Tiohtià:ke in the language of the Kanien’kehá:ka and as Mooniyang by the Anishinaabe. This land is a vibrant and active gathering place for Indigenous and other peoples. Knowing the past and current consequences of colonialism is crucial; we are committed to lifelong un/learning and to supporting indigenous resistance.

WHAT IS DRAMA THERAPY?

Often talk therapy alone is not enough to sustain long-term relief, and it can even be harmful to use words to describe painful memories and emotions. In the drama therapy space, you harness the power of embodied somatic expression to relieve stress and anxiety, and start untangling from traumatic memories and emotions.

Creative arts therapy techniques use imaginative metaphor, nonverbal expressions, somatic physical movement, storytelling, and role play. The rational verbal part at the front of the brain acts as a defensive guard against overwhelmingly painful experiences. This playful method gently slips past cognitive defences without flooding your system, to allow emotional relief and mental flexibility. It's also fun!

WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness: our senses are on the alert, our attention and our perceptions are heightened. This condition varies from person to person and from one time to another.

Hypnotherapy uses specific techniques to bring about this hypnotic state. These techniques, called inductions, are communication processes that engage body and voice, using verbal and non-verbal language.

Hypnotherapy is a type of short therapy that sets specific, time-bound goals. It grants access to our resources in order to solve our problems or to make our wishes come true.

Hypnosis is also an excellent tool for regulating the nervous system. Hypnotherapy is therefore both a favoured technique for managing stress and emotions, as well as an effective self-transformative tool.

COVID-19 PROTOCOL

Masks are recommended but currently are not enforceable.

If you have any symptoms of COVID 19 or Monkeypox (or any other potentially contagious condition), we ask you not to come to the workshop. Please send us a message to cancel.
