TREASURES OF CHAMBER MUSIC

Description

Domagoj Ivanovic, violin, Noel McRobbie, piano

Michael Conway Baker – Four Portraits, Op. 133

These four short pieces are musical portraits of siblings Paul, Lorraine, Eleanor, and Donna Grescoe. The late Donna Grescoe, who had a significant career as violinist and pedagogue, eventually became a ‘patron’ of the composer for over ten years, resulting in numerous compositions for violin and piano.  The music is Baker’s impassioned thanks to her memory. Paul is a well-known author, Lorraine a violin instructor, and Eleanor a care giver, all of which is depicted musically.

Josef Suk – Four Pieces, op. 17

Composed in the spring of 1900, Josef Suk’s 4 Pieces for Violin and Piano were dedicated to fellow violinist Karel Hoffmann. Highly romantic and spiced with Bohemian sounds and a hint of impressionism these pieces are rewarding both for the violinist and the pianist.

Come enjoy music-making at its finest.
