Description

Join the Justice Center of Rensselaer County for a virtual Black History Month event with Dr. Alice Green featuring her new book, “We Who Believe in Freedom: Activism and the Struggle for Social Justice."

About Dr. Green

Known for her work in the Capital Region and beyond, Green has been a social justice activist, advocate for the incarcerated and a community organizer for about 40 years.

Green is executive director of the Center for Law and Justice, which she founded in 1985. She also founded the African American Cultural Center of Albany, the Paden Institute and Retreat for Writers of Color, and has served as legislative director for the New York Civil Liberties Union.

The Event

Paul Grondahl, a journalist and Director of the New York State Writers Institute, and himself the author of several books, will interview Dr. Green.

While the event is free, it is a fundraiser for the Justice Center of Rensselaer County and the Albany Center for Law and Justice, both 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Donations are encouraged and can be made online at JCRC1.org.

The Zoom link will be sent to your email the day of the event.

About The Book

"We Who Believe in Freedom: Activism and the Struggle for Social Justice" is part memoir, part history, exposing readers to weighty topics such as police abuse and accountability, criminal justice and prison reform, and political abuse of power in Albany, New York.

In the book, Dr. Green discusses these topics through her life experiences as an advocate, highlighting the impact they have had on Albany's Black communities since the early days of enslavement up to the present day, when we still have so many racial and criminal justice issues before us.

The new book is available at Market Block Books in Troy, the Book House in Albany, the Institute of History and Art in Albany, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and at the office or website of the Center for Law and Justice (http://www.cflj.org). All proceeds from the sale of the book go to the Albany Center for Law and Justice.
