Voting Methods Member Vote Event

Description

The committee that published "New Government for Today's Portland: Rethinking How We Vote" re-convened this month to review their research, and consider new data and analysis. Given new information focused on Portland’s electorate, they are proposing an amendment that adds important clarity to their original recommendation about district elections. Click here to read the updated recommendation.

City Club will host a presentation from the committee, discussion among members, and Q&A with committee members and national elections policy experts. Anyone in the community may participate in the meeting, but only members may vote to approve or reject the updated recommendation.  Click here to join or renew your membership.

Presenters

  • Mark Stephan, City Club of Portland, Research Committee Chair
  • Sol Mora, Coalition of Communities of Color, Civic Engagement Manager
  • Jay Lee, Sightline Institute, Democracy Research Associate

Review and Voting Process

Following breakout groups, Members will have an opportunity to discuss the recommendation before a full membership vote takes place. If you know that you will want to raise substantive concerns that would result in “special procedures” within our bylaws, please contact Iris Maria Chávez, City Club Secretary (chavez.iris@gmail.com) by March 20th, so that we can ensure the virtual format can work as well as possible to support critical engagement.

At the end of the event, City Club will email members a link to an online ballot. The poll will be open for 24 hours, closing at 1PM PST on Thursday, March 24.

PS: If you need to update your email address, please contact Kayla Kennett, Communications Manager (communications@pdxcityclub.org) by March 22nd.
