About this event

Following our successful application for funding from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities, in recognition and celebration of National Windrush Day 2022 Pimlico Toy Library, Pimlico Primary and City of Westminster Libraries have come together to educate 1000 local children and their carers about the Windrush story, through a series of coordinated activities and lessons in schools and libraries across south Westminster.

For Pimlico Primary students, we are delivering an entire school day of lessons and activities on Empire Windrush and the incredible contributions that the Windrush Generation and their children have made to the British economy and culture. For pre-schoolers, we have organised Carnival arts and educational workshops in Pimlico and Victoria Libraries.

We end the day with the Pimlico Primary Windrush Day Fete from 2.30 pm-4.30 pm at which we will celebrate Caribbean music, food and culture with a performance from the Pimlico Academy Steel Pan Band, workshops in Carnival arts and dance, and delicious Caribbean cuisine.

The Lord Mayor of Westminster and local councillors will also be in attendance, making the Fete an enriching community experience for our pupils and their parents and carers.

We require all parents and carers who wish to attend to register in advance, so that we can ensure we have sufficient food and other resources for the event. Please register now to secure your place(s).
