World Peri-Urban Day

Description

The 'peri-urban' hinterland, the area between and around cities, shows the extended footprint of human settlements. Both poor and rich sprawl into the peri-urban, in the line of flood or fire, along with poverty, insecurity and alienation. To improve the resilience of cities and human settlements - climatic, ecological, social and economic - we have to start with the peri-urban.

This (self-generated) World Peri-Urban Day follows ‘Urban October’ & World Cities Day 31st October, also just before the COP27, Nov 7-18th. We launch the new Global Peri-Urban Initiative based in Chennai - https://periurban.iitm.ac.in - with the completed global project http://peri-cene.net, together with other projects (to follow). Then we share ideas on ways forward, form a community of interest, and plan for next steps.

This combined global event is in 2 parts , each of 2 hours
